In May 20, 2009, Taiwanese have made the most important and correct choice that they have ever made—voting the candidate of the KTM party, Ma Ying-jeou, as their new president. I still remember the moment when we confirmed that Ma won the election, many people around me wept over our eventual victory, and were glad that we finally get rid of a corrupt president who stole citizens’ money and save it in the bank in Switzerland.

As known, president Ma is famous for his good figure and handsome appearance. It’s not only owing to his parents’ good gene but also owing to regular exercise. Before he became the president, no matter how busy he is, Ma went jogging every morning and said hello to pedestrians who surprisingly met him. As a successful politician, Ma shows us how to build a fine image and keep in good shape at the same time. Talking about Ma’s fine image, we should mention his good temper. Kindness and toleration is the first impress he left to us. For instance, every time when someone criticizes his strategy or make a personal attack toward him, he would say “thanks for your comments” or “I’ll appreciate your advice”, etc. And to those people who are in the adverse party or who have attacked him before, Ma never fought back or created rumors of his enemies’ scandal, because he always observes his principle: do not do to others what you don’t want to be done to you. What's more, Mr. Ma is also well-mannered. He cares about proper formalities very much, or he wouldn't go to the wedding banquet when southern Taiwan was being destroyed by Typhoon Morakot. No doubt, president Ma is the kindest politician in the world.

However, recently, some people say that Ma is incapable of being a good president because of his weakness and incompetence. They say Ma’s administration is a “powerless government”.

But, as the saying goes, "nobody is perfect." Our last president, A-bien, has "better capability", but was found corrupt after his retirement. Another president, Mr. Lee, was once " Mr. liberty", but after he retired, he went mad and said crazy words frequently on TV. President Ma is just doing what our successive presidents did ─ creating a personal style. Futher more, we know that maintaining a perfect and incorruptable image is a difficult accomplishment to achieve. It is so hard to give up the chance to use those secret fees to buy jewelry or sogo coupons if you know that you have a chance to use it. Therefore we shouldn’t blame Mr. Ma too much. His good personality should be the most important thing that we should notice and learn. By the way, he is the only president who speak English.

If one day, I have a oppertunity to meet president Ma one day on the street, I would like to say to him, "you are the man who I respect the most. I will use your name to name my son, Kou Ying-jeou."
